Peter is a self- taught artist. With his keen interest in the countryside and in particular the wildlife, these were the obvious subjects for his paintings.
Peter trained as a landscape gardener working for a large landscaping firm in Surrey. He worked on several gold-winning gardens at the Chelsea Flower Show as well as large stately homes. He later set up his own landscaping business. It was here that he first started using watercolour paint to enhance his garden designs for clients.
His early paintings were well received and this gave him the encouragement to produce more. His first painting sold in 1994 and by 1999 his paintings were selling at Sotherbys and Christie's wildlife auctions.
After several years he tried working in oils and this is now his preferred medium.
In 2001 he was selected for the prestigious "Wild in Du Natuur" annual wildlife exhibition in the Netherlands and every year after until it closed in 2012.
In 2005 he was a Winner in the Birdwatch Magazine " Bird Artist of the Year " competition.
He has been selected several times for the David Shepherd Foundation exhibition at the Mall Galleries.
In 2010 a client, an ex-jockey, persuaded him to paint some racehorses. Although a keen racegoer it was a difficult subject and something he had not attempted before. The paintings went down well and this led to several more commissions.
With this encouragement, he started exhibiting his paintings at local racecourses as well as at the Cheltenham Festival. This led to more orders from owners, trainers and jockeys. He has now painted several Grand National winners including, Comply Or Die for the jockey Timmy Murphy, and many other big race winners. He also works closely with a local trainer, Gary Moore, and has completed many commissions for him and his owners.
In 2017 he joined the Society Of Equestrian Artists and was promoted to Associate a year later.
His Still life paintings are something new and an exciting challenge. It is a subject he is looking to expand on and to work closely with the Sinclair Gallery.
